"Splinter and Move" was mainly a John Byrne/Gordon Sharp track, with David Clancy adding (great but) minimal guitar to it.
It was recorded live in David's bedroom at Priory Road,Crouch End in early 1984 and if it wasn't for the shrieks of feedback from the microphone,it would have been included on "Camouflage Heart" for sure.It was thankfully rescued by the aforementioned midnight compilation. There was an interesting experimental noise track from late 1983 called "Kiss the Wiseman",written and performed live by Gordon Sharp,David Clancy and Matt Kinnison (16 at the time) but the tape of that has been lost to "storage & travelling..."

i'm thinking that "kiss the wise man" might have been late 1982.i'm sure it was recorded in park road, east finchley, which was where david and i first lived when we reached london.i'll ask matt if he still has a recording of it.and er,for that matter "splinter and move" might have been late 1983.oh dear... all those unwritten in diaries...if only i was more organasised.

I am curious about the sudden ending of the track...
Such an effective way of finishing it too

Calling Matt Kinnison!

...the ending of "splinter and move",purely a structural choice.the original recording continues through the second build-up and finishes as it breaks down.when it came to the mastering it seemed natural to cut the song dead midway through that second build-up.it works dynamically,i think.
there was a live band rehearsal tape of a song called "52 Seconds" from late 1982/early 1983,the lyrics were eventually filtered into "Splinter and Move".

I have a key in the top drawer of my bedside table that cinder gave me in the mid eighties. The label attached to it says "storage container 12b, braehead retail park" Don't know if it's important or relevant, just thought I'd mention it.

OK. Here's a question I want to ask, though I always get bollocked and riduled by the grumpy one when I ask questions.

cindytalk have never converged with what is considered mainstream. Do cindytalk keep a fly eye on the mainstream and alter course away when necessary, or have the paths never crossed without conscious effort on anyone's part. What if a Jeans advert suddenly threw, say, Moon Above Me into the charts, would the track be scorned and disowned?

i'll answer this question properly once i receive the cheque from microsoft for use of "traumlose nachte" on vista advert ;-)

sadly, when i asked matt kinnison if he had a copy of "kiss the wise man",he said no and that he hadn't even heard it for 10 years, possibly more.
