"Take my hand..."
Melody Maker (October 22, 1994):
"The office stereo's packed up (again), which means I have no way of ascertaining if this semi-spoken, semi-illusional oddity from Cindytalk is half as intriguing as I thought on cursory listen sometime back in the Dark Ages. Probably." (Everett True)
Looking at the other artists reviewed on the page, this must have been an oddity indeed!
"Prince of lies"
take my hand
take my hand
take me...
anywhere you want to
touch my lips
touch my lips
touch me...
anyway you want to
i won't kiss you
if i kiss you
i could be
the queen of heaven
i won't love you
if i love you
i could be
the queen of heaven
the queen of heaven
the queen of heaven
away...
away...
away

I seem to recall that the recording of this particular single was quite unique.
Maybe Cinder would like to share it with us here . . .
Also,why "922" numbered copies?
That is funny especially because I cannot find any number on my own copy!
I've got No. 459.... I'm sure you have the reissue!!! :D
That explains it then but . . .
was there a reissue?
So I don't even have the original one?
Now,what kind of archivist am I?!
Gutted...
;-)
there was no re-issue! naively,we thought we were getting 1000 copies but they only sent us about 922.
an industry fiddle,i think.we intended to number all of them but it's possible we missed one,if you have an un-numbered copy that would make you a better archivisty, surely?
Well, actually,if you look closely at the back cover, there seems to be a trace of numbers written in silver ink!
my copy is # 297 ! who has number 1 ?
Actually I had two copies but gave one to a dear friend after he fell in love with THAT voice. He said Prince of Lies made him think of a blooming flower.
;-)
P.S. to Plastic O. : emailed you on your toerag address - hopefully it's still active ?
cheers!
For The Benefit Of All could be a great NEW single... I've got a golden-ink pen ready to number it!
it's needs to be proper finished before it could be released though, otherwise it's just rubbish,yeah...
i don't think the current version is rubbish, but you're the artist ;)
matt kinnison did most of the work,i just floated my voice in from another song.nae borra,as easy as stodgy pudding....
a demo by it's very nature is to give an impression of the possibilities.. this one has done that job brilliantly in my opinion.however,it will need a bit more work before it sees the light of day.mind you,if for some horrible reason we couldn't finish it,i'd be cool about releasing (almost) as is...
Finished versions are great because they make the demo versions collectable. I've got loads of rare Bowie demo's that are brilliant in their own way - just not as songs! Anyone want to hear the Jones boy singing Penny Lane?
As it happens I ended up listening to the It's Luxury (improvised - I assume that's another word for demo in this case) version so much I ended up liking it more than the album version.
I better put the cap on that golden ink pen... before it dries out and is unable to number anything... But I agree with Plastic O, a lot of demos are far more interesting than the actual end-product. Maybe 'freshness' does count?
Read it and weep cinder. Someone agreed with me. The first step of my cunning plan has been achieved. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ...
Step 1 - get people on my side.
Step 2 - ?
Step 3 - World domination.
.. ha ha ha.
